Art 12 Overview
Unit 1 The Study of Human Emotion.
The students will draw portraits of somebody they know. Each portrait will represent an emotional expression. Use the drawing resource “Facial Expressions” as a reference for this project.

Unit 2 Student’s choice of five drawings.
In this unit the student will choose their own subjects and explore them with a variety of different mediums. At the end of this unit the student should have five portfolio ready drawings that demonstrates their versatility and creativity.
Possible techniques to choose from: crosshatching, pointillism, searching line, contour, gestural drawings and washes.
Possible mediums to choose from: Graphite pencils, watercolor pencils, chalk, Uni-ball pens, Pencil crayons oil pastels, conte, pastels, charcoal, colored pens and markers.

Unit 3 – Print Making (Intaglio)
In this unit the student will learn the basic techniques of intaglio printmaking.
Using the Introduction to Print Making study the techniques by the great masters on pg. 119.

Unit 4 – Oil Painting
In this unit the student will produce one painting 3’x3’ they will be responsible for building and stretching their own painting frames. Subject matter can be chosen from the following categories. Political, Environmental, Human Rights, or an approved subject.
The student should try to be insightful and creative when building their paintings. The painting should communicate a strong message.
1. Research – your research should include:
a paragraph on the basic idea of what you would like
to communicate in your painting. It should include
thumbnail and a pre sketch with colour. /10
